PPC Technical Bureau Participates in First Meeting of the ACPD's Experts Advisory Committee

The Technical Bureau of the Permanent Population Committee (PPC), represented by Mr. Yusef Mubarak Al-Dosari, took part in the first meeting of the Experts Advisory Committee of the Arab Council for Population and Development (ACPD), held in Cairo on 10 February 2020. This meeting responds to the decision issued by ACPD's first regular session regarding the activities of the General Secretariat in light of the population priorities of the Arab region. The decision stipulated that the first and second meeting of ACPD Executive Office shall be held during the year 2020.

 
ACPD will form its Executive Office in accordance with its statute which states that: "the executive office council shall consist of six members". Participants also discussed the possibility of seeking the assistance of experts to contribute to the formulation and elaboration of a regional population strategy that guides Arab countries in cooperation with partner organizations, including the United Nations Population Fund. In addition, they discussed forming a task team responsible for preparing the strategy and assigning the team chairmanship.

 
Moreover, the meeting also deliberated the necessity of organizing activities to empower young people and engage them in the Sustainable Development Agenda, under the umbrella of the Arab Council for Population and Development, in partnership with the Youth and Sports Department and the United Nations Population Fund. As well, attendees called for launching artistic and cultural competitions among young people from various Arab countries, aimed at empowering youth and raising their awareness regarding population issues. The topics of the competitions were as follows: discrimination against women, early marriage, family planning, reproductive health, youth unemployment.
